Games again...

I have some good news...I guess. I've been fairly busy the weeks after my trip to Dubai. I joined a new gaming group and the experience has been interesting. This new lot, let's call the the New Hamburg lot. NHL. So the NHL are rough around the edges. Initially, I didn't like one or two people because they're just so rude and crass, but I'm slowly warming up to them.

The other news is I'm currently playing five campaigns, two of which I am the DM. As I mentioned earlier, I was starting a solo campaign with my husband to learn how to DM. Over time, I included my best friend to play remotely via gchat from Seattle, as well as his new boyfriend joining us. So from one player, I'm now DM-ing three. The second campaign I'm DM-ing resulted from the NHL crowd temporarily losing their DM due to personal issues. They still wanted to get together and play DnD so I volunteered. The DM recovered, so now we alternate Thursdays for the game. The fourth game is the campaign my husband runs, and the fifth one is the one my best bud from Seattle runs and I join in via gchat to play remotely with his Seattle friends.

Playing and running games leaves me very little time to brood or think about my apparent failures and disappointments I am to my family. It also helps me think in new and creative ways, and I'm writing again. I'm also working with a friend who's a graphic designer to rebrand my cake business. I did her wedding cake this summer and it turned out great. We're bartering services - she does my rebranding, I pay her in cake. Win win. I'm changing the name of the company to something more obvious, but still witty and personal.

I guess I can talk about my games here. The solo game that I'm running - or atleast was solo - is based on the Westeros geography, landmarks and I've taken a few lore ideas from it. I wanted to focus on the adventure and not on world creation so I piggybacked on a world I'm intrigued in. My husband is playing an assassin rogue who's interested in climbing up the social ladder and making money through being a hitman-for-hire. My friend Sam is playing a psionic sharpshooter who can toss arrows with her mind, and his boyfriend is playing a charismatic knight. As they've adventured, they found a gnome named Shawty who gave them little missions to do, eventually revealing that he needed adventurers who could protect a dragonborn buommman ranger druid named Delila. They also encounter a a half-ogre drunken master named Grog who usually says "Grog want grog!". Turns out Delila is the long lost heir to the throne currently in stewardship by Lord Aurium (yes, I'm very imaginative). Her family got massacred a few decades ago and she was the lone survivor and her existence kept a secret by Shawty. Shawty was accused of massacring her family, but says he was framed. He kept her safe because he felt she would be killed before her time and has been since trying to find the real guilty party. As the party discovers, he was right to be paranoid - someone is trying to stealthily pick Delila off but has been unsuccessful so far. At the moment, the party has managed to reveal Delila as the heir and needs to keep her safe while the steward validates her bloodline and hands over the kingdom to her.

The second game is not as thought out as the first, mainly because I've only had one session so far. I call it the Druid campaign, but I really need to give it a better name as the title gives away too much. It's a kind of an Avatar-esque (airbender, not James Cameron, although it's got flavours of both) game, where the world is at harmony, but is slowly getting imbalanced and will eventually cause the neutral-disposition druids to rise and become the antagonists. We haven't gotten that far yet. So far the new party are in the starting town and have managed to survive a mutant horde of centipedes. The party includes my husband playing a grey orc cleric who is more of a 'might is right' philosophy than a healer; a psion telekineticist who does damage with his mind; a giant champion of freedom; a diviner wizard; and ranger flavored as a lumberjack. We were supposed to have a cool second game on Halloween night, but it got cancelled because a transformer blew up just before game time and our apartment had no electricity and water for about 3 hours. Being on the 14th floor, our water gets pumped by an extra electric pump in the building. So if the electricity goes, so does our water.

So, that's all for now.
